Abstract
Heterotropic pancreas is relatively rare disease and generally has no pathognomonic, clinical and laboratory finding. The submucosa and muscular layer of gastrointestinal tract, commonly in stomach and duodenum, rarely in jejunum and Mackel¢¥s diverticulm, are its favored site. They are usually diagnosed by being complicated with intussusception, ileus or gastrointestinal bleeding, or at other intra-abdominal operation. Therefore, they are usually of anatomic interest, not clinical concern.
Authers have experienced a case of the stomach cancer with heterotropic pancreas in junum presenting indigestion, general malaise and progressive weight loss for 6 months. An egg sized mass was palpable on the epigastrium and upper G-I X-ray study has revealed a cancerous lesion on prepyloric region of the stomach. Laparotomy under the impression of the stomach cancer which later was confirmed by pathol
ogic examination was performed. During the procedure, a mass of adult thumb size and white-yellowish in color, locating in the jejunum, 40 cm. distal from Treitzs ligament was noted. The mass was confirmed as heterotropic pancreas tissue by pathologic examination.
